Microsoft Communities

Expression

The Seattle Times yesterday wrote about the growing influence of design leaders inside Microsoft.  Two of the prime examples of this trend are Eric Zocher, General Manager for Expression Suite, and Steven Guttman, Product Unit Manager for Expression Web.

Eric runs the overall team who ship all of our design tools; a sort of "startup within Microsoft".  Steven runs the team who build Expression Web -- a product that wins kudos for web standards support, and spontaneous applause for PHP support :-)

Nishant spoke with them about what it's like to build these products within Microsoft, about the recent launch of the Expression community site, and more.  I have a feeling we'll be hearing a lot more from both of these guys in the future!

Come see Robby Ingebretsen and the rest of the IdentityMine crew demonstrate the development of the comic reading experience using the Microsoft Expression suite of design tools. Just as the NY Times Reader project dramatically improves the newspaper reading experience, their Windows Presentation Foundation-based approach to comic reading does the same thing for traditional print-based comic books.  Rumor has it there will be a pretty sweet surprise at the end.

If you either missed out on the Expression Session 07 events or attended and still can’t get enough, there will be plenty of Expression to go around at MIX07. The Expression Session 07 events took place in January, with packed venues in San Francisco, Chicago and New York. The focus was on learning how Microsoft Expression can spark creative opportunity a long with examples of developers who are already putting the tools to use. You can expect more of the same as well as a few surprises at the many Expression sessions being lined up for MIX07. Just search on the keyword Expression in our sessions listing to get a sneak peek at what we have planned.

Dubbed the “The Man Behind Microsoft’s Expression” by eWEEK, Forest Key talks about Microsoft’s first foray into building a set of tools for designers. In the article Key gives an insight into Microsoft’s strategy for the Microsoft Expression Suite and its hope to continue with outreach to the design community. Part of that outreach, Key mentions in the article, is the MIX conference which encourages open conversation between Microsoft and members of the Web designer, developer, and business leaders. You can join Forest and many others by registering for MIX07 today!
